SOUTH BEND - James Lee Markiewicz died peacefully Saturday, July 18, 2015, in Center for Hospice Care in South Bend, IN, at the age of 76. A lifelong resident of South Bend, Jim was born on June 26, 1939, to Leo and Martha (Vrient) Markiewicz. On July 9, 1960, in St. Matthew's Catholic Church, he married his high school sweetheart, Donalee (Klutz) Markiewicz. Jim and Donalee just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Jim is survived by his wife, Donalee (Klutz); children, Lori Clements of Fort Wright, KY, Linda Markiewicz of South Bend, IN, Lisa (Tim) Scott of New Carlisle, IN, and Michael (Julie) Markiewicz of South Bend, IN; grandchildren, Derek and Conner Scott, Emily and Olivia Clements, and Austin Markiewicz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Martha Markiewicz, one sister, Marlene (Bob) Waltz, and son-in-law, Bob Clements. Jim graduated from South Bend Saint Joseph's High School in 1957. After graduating, he attended College of Commerce and received his associate degree in Accounting. Jim worked at the Mossberg Printing Company as office manager for many years. He was a Parishioner of Corpus Christi Church. He had been involved in many organizations over the years including Polish Businessmen, Achievement Forum, Polish Falcons of America, and MR Falcons. His father, Leo, and paternal grandfather, Michael, were original members of the Breezers, where Jim was treasurer and a lifelong member. Jim was an avid animal lover. There was never a stray animal his children couldn't talk him into keeping. His birdfeeders were never empty and he always had peanuts for the squirrels. He liked to fish and spent many summer vacations at Indiana, Gravel, Long, and Hyuck Lakes with his family. He enjoyed socializing with his friends and loved spoiling his grandchildren with his stash of chocolate and jelly beans. Visitation will be 3:30 pm-8 pm Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Kaniewski and Sons Funeral Home, located at 3545 N Bendix Drive, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 23, at the funeral home at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
