SOUTH BEND - Shirley Marie Deranek, 72, passed away at 1:35 p.m. on Monday, May 7, in the Saint Joseph Care Center after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Shirley was born on April 16, 1935, in Nashville, TN, to the late Lonan and Thelma (Caudwell) King. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Harlock. On July 16, 1989, she married Casimir "Casey," who survives along with her six children, Michael Willis of South Bend, Fred (Kim) Willis of Culver, IN, Joseph (Rosanne) Willis of LaPorte, IN, Tim (Donna) Willis of Margate, FL, Laura (Frank) Cabanaw of Dowagiac, MI, and Angela (Gary) Frost of Crawfordsville, IN; 14 grandchildren, Steve Allen Willis, Shannon Willis, Dustin Baker, Bill May, Christopher Willis, Steve Willis, Joseph Jr. Willis, Julie Lavelle, Jessica Willis, Destinie Prince, Leah Willis, Sarah Willis, Daniel Cabanaw and Kearstan Frost; eight great-grandchildren, Carrie Baker, Alexis Baker, John Turner, Trinity Willis, Gina Fuzey, Matthew Willis, Nathan Lavelle Jr. and Joseph Anthony Willis III; two sisters, Mary (Keith) Davis of Phoenix, AZ, and Lola Taylor of Ottowa, IL; three brothers, Richard (Dorothy) King of Houston, TX, James (Nancy) King of Grand Rapids, MI, and Lonan (Carolyn) King of Carlsbad, CA; and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was a lab technician at Uniroyal and in the stock room at Torrington. She was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, and she enjoyed doing flower arrangements, ceramics, crafts, and was a doll collector. Shirley enjoyed going to garage sales. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 11, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Gardens in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Indiana, 9135 North Meridian Street, Suite B-4, Indianapolis, IN 46260.
