Leonard Vander Lugt, age 91, of DeMotte, IN passed away on Saturday January 25, 2014 at Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village of DeMotte. Leonard was born in Colton South Dakota on April 15, 1922 to the late Gerrit and Alida (Swier) Vander Lugt. Leonard had been a resident of DeMotte for the last 15 years. He had, over the years, lived in South Bend, IN., Grand Rapids, MI., and Lansing, MI.Leonard graduated from Davis Tech High School in Grand Rapids, MI., class of 1939. On July 5, 1944 in Grand Rapids, MI. Leonard and Anne (Van Enk) Vander Lugt were married and have celebrated 69 years together. Leonard retired after 41 years of employment as a supervisor with Michigan Bell Telephone Company. Leonard proudly served his country in the Army during WWII. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of DeMotte. Leonard is survived by, his loving wife Anne Vander Lugt, his six children,Dr. Lee (Louise) Vander Lugt of Chickasha, OK., Wilma Jean (Roger) Huizenga of Walkerton, IN., Lynn Ann (Steve) Rudoni of Mt. Pleasant, MI., Dr. Gerrit (Barbara) Vander Lugt of Alma, MI., Margery Jo (Robert) Stanton of Jackson, MI., Dr. David (Penny) Vander Lugt of DeMotte, IN., 17 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren. Two sisters, Mary Ann (Robert) Bakker of Holland, MI. and Linda Brooks of Grand Rapids, MI., two brothers, Nelson (Joyce) Vander Lugt of Grand Rapids, MI. and Kenneth Vander Lugt of Merrillville, IN. Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers. Friends may call on Thursday January 30,2014 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the First Christian Reformed Church of DeMotte. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at the First Christian Reformed Church of DeMotte with Pastor Laryn Zoerhof officiating. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Osceola, Indiana. Contributions maybe made to the DeMotte Christian School or to Covenant Christian School.
