GRANGER - Shirley Germaine Appleton, 94, was born August 26, 1921, in South Bend, to Bertha and Edmond DeVreese, who had immigrated to South Bend from Belgium. She was always proud of her Belgian heritage. While working as a costume designer, Shirley met Jack Appleton, an actor with South Bend Civic Theatre. The two were married June 16, 1962, in South Bend. Shirley had been a legal secretary until she married Jack, then aided him in his art career, as well as being a portrait artist in her own right. According to her wishes, there will be no services. Cremation has taken place. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services assisted the family with arrangements.
