Elsie J. Weis
January 10, 1929 ~ September 10, 2022 (age 93)
Loving mom, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, neighbor and friend, Elsie Jane Doyle was born on January 10, 1929, and died on September 10, 2022. She had three great loves in her life: her husband, her family, and the Roman Catholic Church. Born, raised, and educated in Mishawaka, Elsie was the youngest child of Leo and Daisy (Jodon) Weis. Her older brother, Leonard, and older sister, Leona, predeceased her. Elsie graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1947. A year later, she met, dated, and fell in love with Robert Doyle, also a Mishawaka High graduate. Their relationship led to marriage, and their romance lasted for 74 memorable years. Over their many years of marriage, Elsie and Robert were almost inseparable. They built, literally from foundation to chimney, their first house together, raised and educated two children, Carolyn and Thomas, and attended virtually every extracurricular activity and sporting event their children, and often their grandchildren, engaged in. They went on family vacations in the Upper Midwest and Florida. Later, with each of their grandchildren, they made special trips to Washington D.C., Florida, and the Deep South to see historic and scenic sites. When not rearing her children or helping to raise her grandchildren, Elsie worked in accounting at Uniroyal, in retail at The Value House, where she was affectionately known as the “Toy Lady,” and in banking at Mishawaka Federal. Ultimately, she joined Robert in his manufacturer sales business as bookkeeper. In retirement, Elsie enjoyed traveling with Robert throughout the US, Canada, the British Isles, and the Caribbean. They spent several winters in Florida, visited family in New England, played golf, fished, and always enjoyed a game of cards with family and friends. A devoted Catholic, Elsie was a lifelong member of and communicant at St. Joseph’s Parish in Mishawaka. She valued her faith and Catholic education and made sure her children and grandchildren were ingrained with Catholic values. Elsie lived her faith. She was kind, cheerful, compassionate and loving. Elsie was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Carolyn Doyle Snyder. Surviving Elsie is her son, Thomas (Jade) Doyle. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Annette (Ryan) Kurrus, Matthew (Colette) Snyder, Evan (Melissa) Doyle, and Mackenzie Doyle; and seven great grandchildren, Andrew, Patrick, Nathan and John Kurrus, Sophia and Dean Snyder, and Jude Doyle. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 15 from 4 to 7 pm at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka with a rosary to be recited at 6 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church (Mishawaka) with Rev. Chris Lapp officiating. Entombment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or School.
