Vladeta D. Vuckovic, 89, of South Bend, IN passed away at 12:44 p.m. Sunday, September 16, 2012 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He was born on March 30, 1923 in Aleksinac, Yugoslavia to Dimitrije and Anja Vuckovic. Mr. Vuckovic is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Goran Maric) Vuckovic of Falls Church, Virginia; son, Alexander (Sara) Vuckovic of Carlisle, Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Stefan, Elizabeth, Ivan, Julia and Alexander and the mother of his children, Mila Alexander of Chicago, IL. A daughter, Vesna Vuckovic; two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Mr. Vuckovic brought his family over from communist Yugoslavia to allow them to live a free life. He retired as an associate professor from the University of Notre Dame where he started in 1963. He made many contributions in the field of mathematics for which he was world renowned. A private memorial service will be held at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, South Bend, IN.
