Merlin E. Pinckert

SOUTH BEND - Merlin Eugene Pinckert, 77, of South Bend died at 3:45 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2013 in West Bend Nursing and Rehabilitation. Mr. Pinckert was born June 7, 1936 in South Bend to the late Laura Esther (Hempstead) and Albert Roy Pinckert and was a lifetime area resident. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Pinckert Gee; wives, Laura Pinckert and Ginger (Keb) Pinckert; and siblings, George and James Pinckert. He is survived by daughters, Lois Kristine Wilma and Lorie Middlebrook; his sister, Alice J. Shriver (Glen) of Rochester, IN; a brother, Roy E. "Butch" Pinckert (Harriet) of Walkerton, IN; and many other family members. Merlin was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during the Korean and Viet Nam eras. He graduated from South Bend Central High School, worked for many years at the former Uniroyal plant in Mishawaka and retired as a security guard. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and also loved flying. He spent many hours tinkering and riding his Harley motorcycles and for many years raced his treasured stock cars at the South Bend Motor Speedway and other area racetracks. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9th at Olive Chapel Cemetery on Timothy Rd. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N.
