Barbara M Ferro
August 29, 1935 - December 29, 2022
Barbara M. Marriott, age 87, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022 in Michigan City, IN. She was born on August 29, 1935 in Elkhart, IN to Ernest and Florence (Krestchmer) Ferro who preceded her in death. Barb is survived by her children, Lori (Patrick) Hines of Trail Creek and Michael (Debra) Marriott of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Jesse, Jeremy, Jordan, and Bethany Hines, Nicole Fronczek, and Alex Marriott; nine great grandchildren; and brother, Dr. Gregory (Carolyn) Ferro. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Jack; sisters, Rosemary Cingel and Theresa Ferro; and brothers, Paul, Bernard (Jaqueline), and Philip (Sandy) Ferro. Barb was a 1953 graduate of Saint Joseph Academy in South Bend. She worked at Notre Dame University as assistant editor of The Catholic Boy magazine where she met the love of her life, Jack, by chance through a mutual friend, Allen Grose, who was servicing the office typewriters. Starting off as a blind date, Barb and Jack were married in 1958 until his passing in 2009. Barb was a dedicated homemaker and mother who was famous for her cooking and baking skills. She loved to entertain and take care of everyone she could. In the 1980s, Barb started working in the MCAS, as a substitute in the cafeterias. She enjoyed getting to know many of the students for the next 2 decades. Later on, she spent many years taking care of the kitchen at the Free Methodist Church. She described her work at both the schools and in the church as a food ministry, comforting and showing love to others through food. Barb grew up attending catholic school and was a devoted church member throughout her whole life. She attended First Presbyterian, Free Methodist, and St. John’s United Church of Christ specifically throughout her time in Michigan City. This gave her the ability to expand her fellowship and love of Christ with so many people throughout her life. Her family and faith were truly the most important things to her. She was a devoted wife, mother, and vessel of the Lord. She was a kind and giving woman and will be missed by all lucky enough to have had their lives touched by her. Family and friends are invited to meet with the family for a memorial visitation on Friday, January 6, 2022 from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington Street, Michigan City, IN 46360 with Pastors William Fine and Jack Andrews officiating. Burial of cremains will take place following memorial service at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barb’s name to St. John’s United Church of Christ, 101 St. John Road, Michigan City, IN 46360 or a charity of donor’s choice To sign the guestbook or leave condolences, please visit www.geisenfuneralhome@yahoo.com (219) 874-4214.
