Alfred M. Zwickl, 75, of Kern Road, South Bend, Ind., died at 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 26, 1924, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Zwickl retired in 1983 from Indiana Bell after 37 years of service. On April 28, 1951, in South Bend, he married Betty Jo Comegys, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Karen L. (Frank) Frick of South Bend; three sons, Mark S. (Pam) Zwickl of Littleton, Colo., Craig M. (Kathy) Zwickl of Indianapolis, Ind., and John R. Zwickl of South Bend; six grandchildren, Amy Pulley, Lisa Zwickl, Stephen Zwickl, Sarah Frick, Tim Zwickl and Molly Zwickl; two sisters, Josephine Zwickl and Sister Mary Janice Zwickl, CSC, both of South Bend; and by two brothers, Michael Zwickl of Mishawaka, Ind., and George Zwickl of Indianapolis. Mr. Zwickl was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church where he was a counter and an usher. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of Indiana, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army.
Family and friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 1827 E. Ireland Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, in St. Jude Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Catholic Church Building Fund, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend, IN 46614; or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 230 E. Sample Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
