SOUTH BEND - Karen S. Alwine, 79, of South Bend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday January 10, 2022 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was born on April 25, 1942, in South Bend, to the late Joseph M. and Helen (Wolfe) Pilger and was a lifelong area resident. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Williams and brother, Ronnie Shields. Ms.. Alwine is survived by her daughter, Teresa Woodrum and her son, Douglas Alwine, both of South Bend; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two sisters, Cheryl Hayes of South Bend and Bonnie Shields of Niles, MI, by her brother, John Kendziorski and a daughter-in-law, Angela Alwine. Karen worked as a Inst Tech for Memorial Hospital for 24 years, before retiring in 2004. There will be no services, cremation will take place.
