Roy T. Ritchie Sr.

SOUTH BEND - Roy T. Ritchie, Sr. passed away in his home on Saturday, August 3rd at 12:05 AM from congestive heart failure, with his loving family by his bedside. Roy was born on April 9, 1923 in Angola, IN to the late Robert R. and Myrta M. (McAdams) Ritchie and resided in the Michiana area since 1953. On September 22, 1943, he married Bette June Jordan in Gary, IN. Roy and Bette were married 56 years prior to her death on October 6, 1999. Roy is survived by four children: Roy T. Ritchie, Jr. (Carmen Garrett) of South Bend, James L. (Linda) Ritchie of Silver Lake, IN, Rosanna (Ronald) Ferris of South Bend, and Robert W. Ritchie (Monica Krol) of Walkerton. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Roy T. Ritchie, III (Dawn), Rhonda (Troy) Bucher, Dawn Ritchie, Wade Ritchie, Shannon (Thomas) Troxel, Chad (Amanda) Ferris and Breanna Krol. Roy was blessed to have 12 great-grandchildren and one sister, Evelyn Ritchie of Greensboro, N.C. Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife; two sisters, Nell Wiegand and Carietta Ritchie; and two brothers, Frank and Robert Ritchie. Roy was a World War II Army Veteran. He was quite proud of the fact that he enjoyed 30 years of retirement after 30 years employment with Bendix. He and Bette also owned and operated Ritchie's Furniture in North Liberty and Crumstown. After retirement, he and Bette wintered in Florida and enjoyed flea marketing. Roy also enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family. There will be no visitation and a private family service with burial at Crumstown Cemetery will be held. The family would like to acknowledge the loving care Roy received from Center for Hospice and praise their HeartWize Program which enabled Roy to manage his illness at home.
