SOUTH BEND - Elizabeth R. “Beth” Slater, 80, passed away at 3:55pm Saturday, May 12, 2018 surrounded by her family. Elizabeth was born on November 27, 1937 in South Bend to Victor and Mary (Jaskowiak) Rogowski. Beth was a member of the Michiana Polka Mass Singers (Music Director), Harvest House, Forever Learning Institute, Polonaise, Golden Cluster, Hospice Volunteer, and American Legion Post 357 Ladies Auxiliary. She was employed by Peddlers Porch, worked as an EMT, dental hygienist, and in health & nutrition. Beth loved dancing, singing, her trips to Florida, and spending time with her family. On July 6, 1957 she married Lawrence J. Slater, Sr. He died on October 10, 2008. Beth was also preceded in death by four sisters Martha DeBeck, Lucille Micinski, Nancy Siarkowski, and Dorothy Marlowe. Surviving are three daughters, Jane (Dave) Lewinski of Lakeville, Jill (Jim) Rogers of Parrish, FL, and Julie (John Hurley II) Slater of Mishawaka; two sons, Larry (Anne) Slater Jr. of Granger and John (Julie) Slater of Floyds Knobs, IN; 5 grandchildren, Cory Lewinski, Dominic Lewinski, Owen Slater, Garrett Fitzgerald, and Kate Fitzgerald; 2 great-grandchildren, Ian Rogers and Nathan Rogers; a sister, Margaret Connell of Beverly Shores, IN, and numerous granddogs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Friday, May 18, 2018 in St. Hedwig Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Viewing will take place from 2-4 and 6-8 Thursday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 South Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:45pm. Viewing will also take place from 9-9:30am Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice, River Bend Cancer Society, or American Legion Post 357.
