SOUTH BEND - Robert E. Peczkowski, 90, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015, in his home surrounded by his family. Bob was born April 4, 1925, in South Bend, to the late Lucian and Theresa Peczkowski. Bob was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary Strzelecki, and step-brothers, Harry, John and Ben Strzelecki. On October 9, 1948, Bob married Virginia (Knapp) Peczkowski; she survives along with their children, Kenneth (Sarah Bird) Peczkowski of South Bend, Jill M. Gibson of Ft. Mojave, AZ, Jennifer A. Pursley of Littleton, CO; and brothers, Joseph Peczkowski of South Bend and Thomas (Lorraine) Peczkowski of Hampton Bays, NY; step-brother, Arthur Strzelecki of South Bend; grandchildren, Ryan Gibbons, Corinne (John) Bartley, Jacob and Abigail Pursley; and a great-grandson, Jason. Bob honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Force during WW II. He was employed with Studebaker's for 14 years and, in 1986, Bob retired from the South Bend Community Schools where he was teacher for 25 years at John Adams and LaSalle High Schools. Bob was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, and was on the Finance and Building Committee. He was a member of the St. Joseph Young Men's Society, and was the chairman for three years. Bob enjoyed woodworking, working on jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and collecting old records. Visitation for Bob will be 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, Tuesday, May 26, 2015, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a funeral service will be held at 1 pm in the funeral home. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation , 911 E. 86th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
