Aiming at the best. Margaret Zakowski was recently inducted into the Indiana Trapshooting Hall of Fame. Margaret is from South Bend and has been shooting since 1960. Her husband, Joe, introduced her to the sport and they both participated for years. She said they took time off to raise a family and a few other times but that was it. Her record included three state lady championships in 1979, 1985 and 2001; three state handicap lady championships in 1978, 1988 and 2001; and three state lady double championships in 1992, 2002 and 2004. At the Grand American, which is a worldwide event, she won trophies in four consecutive decades. She won the handicap Lady Championship in 1995.She has been a 15-time member of the Indiana All-State Team. She has 43 trophies from Indiana shoots and more from Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Florida and Arizona. Her lifetime singles targets were more than 114,000. Marge said she has enjoyed the people and challenge of shooting. At the induction ceremony in Fishers, Ind., she said they read her accomplishments and she had forgotten a good number of them.
