Leona KARASIAK Dyczkowski

SOUTH BEND - Leona KARASIAK Dyczkowski, 96, of South Bend, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, in Hospice House, South Bend. She was born Leokadia Banasiak on February 9, 1916 in Leczanuw, Poland. She married Adam Karasiak in 1935 and he preceded her in death in 1960. On November 16, 1963, she married Pete Dyczkowski, who preceded her in death on December 1, 1990. Leona is survived by her daughter, Mary (Walter) Biskupski of South Bend; her sons, Henry (Shotsie) Karasiak of South Bend and Ben (Linda) Karasiak of Granger, IN; seven grandchildren, Mary (Jim) Mentag of Chesterton, IN, Joe (Linda) Paszli of Granger, Bryce (Stephanie) Karasiak of Royal Oak, MI, Shera (Jamie) Dolph of LaPorte, IN, Kacie (Gabriel) Razzo of Chicago, IL, Karie (Miquel) Peralta of Miami, FL and Kalen Karasiak, and friend Meredith of South Bend; by a great-granddaughter, Daelyn Jean Dolph; and by her sister-in-law, Wanda Banasiak of Poland. She was preceded in death by a son, Steve Karasiak, her mother, Magdalena Banasiak, and a brother, Zigmund Banasiak. Leona worked for the University of Notre Dame for 17 years in the Laundry Department. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus B.M. Catholic Church, South Bend, where she was a member of the former Altar and Rosary Society, and she was also a member of St. Adalberts Harvest House. She was the head cook for the former Hallars Post for 25 years and was famous for her chicken dinners. Leona loved gardening, flowers and was an avid Notre Dame, Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears fan. She has a daytime companion, Izzie, her canine friend. She was Busia to many and loved by all. Leona had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a smile on her face. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday, August 2, 2012, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 5 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Friday in St. Stanislaus B.M. Catholic Church, where friends may visit with family for one hour prior to the Mass. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
