Phillip W. Hay , 85, died at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 28 in Memorial Hospital.
He was born on March 7, 1913 in South Bend, Ind. and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Hay retired as a truck driver from Steel Warehouse.
On April 16, 1941, he married Esther Ginter, who survives.
He is also survived by three sons, David (Katherine) of Lakeland, Fla., Earl of Fort Collins, Colo., and Robert (Jean) of South Bend; five grandchildren, Kiberly J. (Jim) Pickens, Michelle L. Hay , Kelly L. Hay , Phillip E. Hay , and Chad A. Hay ; one great grandson, Austin J. Pickens; two brothers, Russell (Trula) of Sevierville, Tenn., and George (Dee) of Plant City, Fla.; and by three sisters, Hazel (Al) Kulwicki and Ila Wilfong, both of New Carlisle, Ind., and Myrtle Torma of South Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Anna May Hay ; three brothers, Howard Hay , Orville Hay and Roy Hay ; a sister, Eris Newcomer; a grandson, Justin R. Hay , in 1974; and a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Hay of Fort Collins, Colo. in 1994. He attended Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church and was a member of Teamsters Union Local 364. Friends may call today from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8:00 p.m. in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood, and one hour prior to services at 11:00 a.m. on Wed., July 1, in the Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church, 24535 Roosevelt Road, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, or to Hospice of St. Joseph County, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
