RENE C. DELOOF
May 22, 1925 - Jan. 9, 2009
MISHAWAKA - Rene C. DeLoof, 83, died at 7:00 p.m. in the Saint Joseph Regional
Medical Center in South Bend on Friday, January 9, 2009. He was born May 22, 1925,
in South Bend, to the late Archiel and Marie (Heynssen) DeLoof. He was also preceded
in death by one brother, Roger, and one sister, Irene Pinkerton. On September 24,
1949, in Mishawaka, he married the former Elsie A. DeMeyer, who died August 2,
2007. Surviving are a daughter, Linda (Ned) Swanson of Granger; three
grandchildren, Jessica (Shawn) Saros, Jenell (Ryan) Pogue and Justin (Stephanie)
Cook; five great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Ashlyn, Jayden, Olivia and Sam. Also
surviving is one sister, Esther January of South Bend. Rene was a supervisor with
NIPSCO for 36 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church,
the B-K Club, DeAmici's and the Eagles. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving
during WWII. Rene enjoyed many outdoor activities including gardening, fishing,
golfing with the West End Group, and riding his bicycle around Rose Park. For many
years he also enjoyed woodworking. The family will receive friends today from 1-3 and
5-7 p.m. in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka, where funeral
services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. The Rev. Barry England of St. Bavo
Catholic Church will officiate and entombment will be at Fairview Cemetery.
