Nancy Marie (Meeks) Pischnoff
Born: Thu., May 2, 1935
Died: Mon., Dec. 1, 2014
Nancy Marie Pishnoff, 79, of South Bend died at 7:05 a.m. Monday, December 1st in Golden Living Center, Elkhart, IN. Mrs. Pishnoff was born May 2, 1935 in South Bend to the late Evelyn D. (Northrup) and James Leroy “Roy” Meeks and was a lifetime area resident. On January 1, 1956 in South Bend as Nancy M. Meeks she married Edward J. Pishnoff who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Cathie A. Comer (Bruce) of South Bend and Diane M. Gregory (Clint) of Edwardsburg, MI; five grandchildren, Justin Gregory, Blake Gregory, Dana Vandemark (Mike Vogler), Brandon Smith (Erin) and Lindsey Hunt (Derrick); five great grandchildren, Dillon Vandemark, Shyane Vandemark, Elliot Smith, Tucker Smith, and Eva Hunt; and her sister, Ruth Naugle (Chuck) of Tucson, AZ. Nancy retired from the dining room at the former Hudson’s Department Store. After retirement she stayed active working at Notre Dame North Dining Hall and most recently the South Bend Chocolate Factory. Her passion was Notre Dame sports. She was a season ticket holder to both football and her beloved women's basketball.
She also loved to travel. She enjoyed everything from camping in the Smoky Mountains to staying at her Florida condo to taking bus trips to Colorado and Branson Missouri. Trips to visit family in Tucson Arizona were a favorite of hers. Her greatest joy was taking the grandchildren on trips all over the United States.
Her dedication to her grandchildren was amazing, available at the drop of a hat in time of need. She also ran the concession stand at Clay park for many baseball seasons, teaching her grandchildren the fine art of making change without a calculator. She was an avid reader and was a lifetime member of Fitness USA where she enjoyed socializing as much as exercising. Nancy knew no strangers. She could strike up conversations with people anywhere, from restaurants to local festivals. Her kindness, generosity and wisdom will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services for Nancy will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 5th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. with Pastor Rick Graves of Grace Community Church officiating. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends on Friday in the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to AseraCare Hospice, 700 E. Beardsley, Suite 2B, Elkhart, IN, 46514. Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.
