STANLEY JOHN CHELMINIAK. Probably no one exercises a more important influence in South Bend Polish circles than Stanley J. Chelminiak, the popular and able banker, who was cashier of the Peoples State Bank. Mr. Chelminiak has lived in South Bend all his life, is of Polish ancestry, but his contacts have not been limited to people of his own nationality. He is a broad-gauge businessman, a public-spirited citizen, and has put his influence behind all worthy movements for the advancement of the city. He was born at South Bend, April 25, 1886, son of Lawrence and Antoinette Chelminiak. His parents were born in Poland, and spent most of their lives at South Bend, where their children have made worthy names and reputations in business and civic affairs. Stanley Chelminiak attended St. Hedwigs parochial school and is a graduate of the South Bend Business College. After leaving school he spent eight years with the Beatty Felting Company, as bookkeeper and stenographer, laying the foundation of a sound business training there. For eight and a half years he was associated with the Kosciusko Building & Loan Association, thus preparing him in a broad way for his work as a financier. Mr. Chelminiak in 1919 helped organize the Peoples State Bank, which was opened for business December 22, 1919. During its more than ten years of growth his knowledge of finance, his extensive acquaintance in South Bend business circles and his personal integrity have been important factors in the banks increasing power and prestige. Mr. Chelminiak was cashier until 1929. In 1920 he helped organize the Prudential Loan & Investment Company. Mr. Chelminiak is an active member of the Polish National Alliance, the Polish Falcons, being president of the Sixth District of this fraternal organization for ten years, and is a member of the B. P. 0. Elks. He has interested himself in charitable and community welfare enterprises. Mayor W. R. Hinkle appointed him a member of the South Bend Aviation Board. Mr. Chelminiak married Miss Lottie Manuszak, who died March 28, 1916, leaving three children, Stanley John Jr., Marie and Tillie. Stanley J. Jr., married Stella Walkowski, of South Bend, and they have one son, Stanley John III.

Born 25 Apr 1886; died May 1954, age 68 of Brickhead Place, Toledo Ohio after a long illness.Former resident and fist cashier of the once Polish Peoples State Bank is So Bend. Lived in Toledo for the past 15 years. Burial at St Joseph Cem. On 18 Jun 1907 married Wladyslawa Manuszak who died 27 Jan 1916. Survived by his wife Frances, s son Stanley J, 2 daughters Mrs Mary Czubek and Tekla [Tillie] both of Toledo and a brother, Valarean.
