SOUTH BEND - Mary R. Koper (Aunt Mary), 98, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Marywood Nursing Center, Livonia, Michigan after a brief illness. Mary was born on November 11, 1917 in South Bend, Indiana to Frank and Victoria Markiewicz. Mary graduated from St. Adalbert grade school and Washington high school. She married Joseph J. Koper on August 7, 1937. Joseph and Mary made their home in Elkhart, Indiana. Joseph preceded Mary in death in 1992. Mary lived in Belleville, Michigan with her nephew and adopted niece, Mark and Susan Widawski and Susan's mother, Anna Solecki. Survivors of Mary include her sisters; Henrietta Robaska of South Bend and Molly Schminky of Willoughby, OH; godson Roy (Vicki) Schminky; niece Victoria (Bruce) Boyer, and nephews David (Deborah) Walorski, John Schminky and Robert (Sherri) Schminky. She was preceded in death by her sister Emily and brothers-in-law Walter Widawski, Robert Schminky, Joseph Walorski and Chester Robaska. Aunt Mary was a kind and generous woman who wanted little for herself, but gave much love and support to others; truly a reflection of her Catholic faith and her devotion to our Blessed Mother. Mary loved to read, knit, crochet, cook and bake, especially pies. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles with her friend Anna Solecki and sharing them with others as gifts. Mary has blessed us all in many special ways. A Mass of Christian Burial was at 11:00am St. Stephen Catholic Church in New Boston, Michigan on Friday, November, 20, 2015. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend, IN on Saturday, November 21, 2015. St. Joseph Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
