Morris O. Searfoss, 79, of 801 Virginia Street, Walkerton, Ind., passed away after and extended illness at 4:39 a.m. Saturday, June 15, in LaPorte Hospital. He retired from the Indiana State Highway Department after 20 years of service. He was born on May 20, 1923, in Findley, Ohio. He was married May 20, 1942, to Byrdie F. Dreibelbis, who survives. He is also survived by six daughters, Donna (Howard) Ross of Paducah, Ky., Carla (Jack) Preston, Brenda (Danny) Calhoon and Ann Searfoss, all of Walkerton, Lora (Michael) McMillen of Plymouth, Ind., and Janet (David) Cooke of Culver. Ind.; a son, Richard (Janice) Searfoss of Osceola, Ind.; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a half brother, Francis Jolliff of Anderson, Ind.; and by a half sister, Geraldine Saltzman of Van Lue, Ohio. Mr. Searfoss served 28 years in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1954 as a master sergeant, served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict, and was awarded a Bronze Star. He was a member of the Walkerton American Legion Post #189 and the North Liberty Post 1954 VFW. He was also a member of the IOOF Lodge #437 in Walkerton and Past Grand Noble of the Rebbecah Lodge #465, a Past Grand Patriarch of Encampment #9, a Past Captain of the South Bend Canton #9, and was a member of the Walkerton United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, in the A.M. Manuel Funeral Home, North Liberty, officiated by James M. Evans, pastor, and assisted by Joan Haney, assistant pastor. Burial will be at Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday by the IOOF Lodge #437. Military graveside services will be conducted by Post 189 and Post 1954.
