SOUTH BEND - Evelyn M. Albert, 92, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2009, at 5:20 a.m. in her residence surrounded by her family. She was born November 11, 1917, in South Bend, to the late Agnes (Celmer) and Joseph Gruber. Evelyn graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1936. She worked at Oliver Corporation in the accounting department where she met her husband, Richard S. Albert. They were married October 28, 1944. After 60 years of marriage, Richard preceded her in death on September 20, 2005. Together they owned and operated Albert Sales and Service. Evelyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Ken Clark; two grandchildren, Sara Clark of South Bend and Michael (Mary) Clark of Elkhart; and her sister, Margaret King of South Bend. Evelyn was a member of the Epsilon Chapter of the Delta Theta Chi Sorority for over 50 years. She was also a member of Homemakers Progressive Club, the Hearing and Speech Auxiliary and the Elks Auxiliary. She enjoyed china painting and summers at the family cottage at Donnell Lake. She was an avid Notre Dame football fan, spending many Saturdays tailgating at both home and away games. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, December 3, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday, December 4, in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bishop Joseph R. Crowley Education Fund, 1015 East Dayton Street, South Bend, IN 46613; or to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
