James H. "Jim" Pinckert, 72, of South Bend died peacefully at 6:50 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2011 in his residence following a lengthy illness. Mr. Pinckert was born October 27, 1938 in St. Joseph County to the late Laura E. (Hempstead) Albert R. Pinckert and was a lifetime area resident. On October 28, 1961 in New Carlisle, IN he married Elsie L. Bennitt who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Lori L. Pinckert (Paul Bernas) of Granger, IN and Rhonda L. Pinckert of South Bend; one grandson, Bryan P. Bernas; one sister, Alice J. Shriver (Glen) of Rochester, IN; and three brothers, George A. Pinckert of South Bend, Merlin E. Pinckert of Lakeville, IN, and Roy E. Pinckert (Harriet) of Teegarden, IN. In loving memory of a loving husband, father, poppa, brother and friend. Our dad was the kindest, gentlest, loving father. He adored his wife, daughters and most of all, his grandson. He enjoyed the time he spent with his brothers and sister along with all of his nephews and nieces. He also loved spending time with his friends. He was an avid Notre Dame and NASCAR fan, fisherman, and bowler. He worked hard and played hard. He retired from AM General Corporation after 30 faithful years of service as a welder and assembly man. He enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, and spending quality with his family. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. Our Hero, Our Dad. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 11th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. with Pastor Nathan Prong of West Side Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Olive Chapel Cemetery, New Carlisle. Friends may call fro 4 until 8 p.m. today, March 10th in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN, 46637.
