Clement “Butch” Walkowski, 76, of 507 N. Brookfield St., was dead on arrival at 5:18pm Sunday in St Joseph’s Medical Center after an apparent heart attack. Mr. Walkowski was the owner of the former Walkowski Food Market for 32 years and retired in 1975 from the South Bend Park Department after five years. He was born July 9, 1911, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident. On July 25, 1934, in South Bend, he married the former Rose Rypnicki, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Judith Bikowski of South Bend; two sons, Thomas of South Bend and James of Colorado Springs CO; four grandchildren; and three sisters, Jennie Swiental, Stella Chelminiak and Vera Nemeth, all of South Bend. Services will be at 10am Wednesday in St Stanislaus Catholic Church. Burial will be in St Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9pm Tuesday in Kaniewski & Sons Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be said at 7pm. Mr. Walkowski was a member of the church and the Ushers Club.
