Nellie M. Downhour , 94, of State Road #23, South Bend, passed away at 11:10 a.m. Sunday, February 13, in the Countryside Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Downhour was born on August 23, 1910, in Royal Center, Indiana, and had lived in the Michiana area since 1922, coming from Royal Center. On July 28, 1928, in South Bend, as Nellie M. Lusher, she married Floyd T. Downhour , who preceded her in death on April 2, 1997. Nellie is survived by a daughter, Mary M. Anderson of South Bend; and a son, Eugene F. (Elsie) Downhour of South Bend. Also surviving are six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished.Mrs. Downhour was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Thomas H. Downhour on Jan. 16, 1945; and by a granddaughter, Beth Ann Anderson in 1985. Also preceding her in death was a great-granddaughter, Brenna Rose Downhour in 1998.Mrs. Downhour worked for many years for the Wilson Brothers Shirt Factory in South Bend and was a homemaker as well. She was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club and was also a member of Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church. Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, February 15, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 16, at 11 a.m. in Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church. Friends may call in the church one hour prior to services. Pastor Charles Ternet will officiate and burial will take place at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church or to the Greene Twp. Lions Club.The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled the arrangements and services and extend deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Downhour family.
