TUCSON, AZ - Rita graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1969 and went on to attend Purdue University where she graduated in 1974 with a B. A. in teaching. She returned to her alma mater, St Joseph High School, where she taught Health and Physical Education. She realized medicine was her true calling, so she enrolled in the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1983. She was a nurse at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for several years and then joined the administrative staff. Rita retired from her service with St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in 2010 and moved to Arizona. Rita was a member of M.R. Falcons of South Bend, IN. Rita married Thomas A. Gerencher in 1976 who predeceased her in 2006. Rita was the daughter of James Edward Miller (deceased) and Beatrice Elizabeth (Zalas) Miller who survives. She is survived by her sister, Leona (Robert) Adams, and her brothers, Michael (Kris) Miller of Jacksonville, FL and Anthony (Anne) Miller of Tucson, AZ as well as her nieces and nephews Amy (Doug) Martin of Fishers, IN; Marie (William) Kelly of Gilbert, AZ; Mallory (Arielle) Miller of Chandler, AZ; and Kevin (Jill) Gerencher of South Bend, IN, and grand nieces and nephews: Annabell Mendez Adams, Sean and Thomas Kelly, Kasie Miller, and Austin Gerencher. Family and friends are invited to a committal service that will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday May, 21, 2016 in Highland Cemetery Chapel.
