EDWARDSBURG - Evelyn Starczewski, 75, of Sherman Road, Edwardsburg, passed at 11:07 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, while a patient in Elkhart General Hospital. She was born June 11, 1931, in Chicago, the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian Besusparis. Evelyn was married Feb. 9, 1952, in Chicago, as Evelyn Besusparis, to Ralph Starczewski, who survives. She and Ralph moved to the Edwardsburg area 29 years ago. Together they owned and operated the Black Pine Nursery in Edwardsburg. The nursery was the love of her life; however the love of her husband and children came first. Surviving are her husband, Ralph, and two daughters, Catherine M. (Bruce) Hardin of Saugatuck, MI, and Lisa M. (Bradley) Steinbarger of Cassopolis. There are three grandchildren, Jason (Linda) Hardin, Allison Hardin and Emily Steinbarger. There are three great-grandchildren, Dallas, Shelby and Chloe. She has two brothers who have passed, Frank Lewkowicz and Chester Lefko. She formerly worked as a library clerk at Notre Dame Hesburgh Library for 17 years; and was formerly a clerk for Norfolk & Western Railroad for 10 years. Memorial Masses in Evelyn's memory may be made to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Edwardsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 US-12, Edwardsburg, MI 49112, by Father William Melody, CSC, of Notre Dame officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main, Edwardsburg. There will be one hour of visitation at the church before services on Friday. Burial will be at Adamsville Cemetery, Edwardsburg.
