SOUTH BEND - Margaret T. Babicz, 78, passed away at 10:50 am Monday, January 27, 2014, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, after a brief illness. Margaret was born on January 18, 1936, in South Bend, to the late Vincent and Martha (Prusinski) Piechocki. On June 8, 1957, she married Raymond C. Babicz, who preceded her in death, along with a sister, Henrietta Markiewicz, and brother, Alfred Piechocki, who preceded her in death. Margaret is survived by her two sons, Michael and Bryan Babicz, along with two sisters, Irene Beelaert and Rosemary (George) Metz, and sister-in-law, Rita Luczkowski, all of South Bend. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and was known as "Aunt Margie." Margie enjoyed traveling with her sons to Tunica and Biloxi, Mississippi, and greeting customers at The Farmers Market where she worked for her son's (Bryan's) bakery, That Cheesecake Place. Margie will be dearly missed by her family, friends, neighbors and customers at The Farmers Market. Margie was an animal lover and will miss her two cats, Sweetie and Esther. Visitation will be from 2 pm to 7 pm Friday, January 31, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday, February 1, 2014, in the funeral home, by the Rev. Bradley Metz, C.S.C., rector of Fisher Hall at the University of Notre Dame and great-nephew of Margaret. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in memory of Margaret Babicz to The Pet Refuge, 4626 S. Burnett Drive, South Bend, IN 46614; or to the donor's choice. For those who are unable to attend the funeral liturgy, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
