SOUTH BEND - Walter C. Ruszkowski, 98, passed away Friday, February 17 in Memorial Hospital. Surviving are a brother-in-law, Edward Bilinski of South Bend; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ruszkowski of South Bend; 7 nieces & 7 nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday, February 21 in Our Lady of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 3-7 Monday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue where a Rosary will be recited at 4 pm.

SOUTH BEND - Walter C. Ruszkowski, 98, passed away at 1:05 am Friday, February 17, 2012 in Memorial Hospital. Walt was born on November 13, 1913 in South Bend to Anthony and Mary (Kominkiewicz) Ruszkowski. He retired from Kinder's Manufacturing where he was an upholsterer and also worked for Studebaker, and was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church. In November of 1938 he married the former Mary Sipotz. She died on April 3, 1960. On February 24, 1962 he married Margaret (Zahoran) Solzan. She died on February 16, 2001. Walter was also preceded in death by 4 sisters, Irene Dabros, Eleanor Wawrzyniak, Helen Morrisey, and Clara Bilinski; a brother, Edward Ruszkowski; a niece, Janice Wawrzyniak; and a nephew, Robert Ruszkowski. Surviving are a brother-in-law, Edward Bilinski of South Bend; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ruszkowski of South Bend; 7 nieces: Carol Critchlow, Karen Doughty, Marie Paczkowski, Virginia Bennett, Evelyn Swizek, Susan Fujawa and Jean Hay, who was also his caregiver; and 7 nephews: Bryan Bilinski, Mark Nowak, Tom Nowak, Mike Nowak, Phil Nowak, Pat Nowak and John Nowak. Walt loved to play cards, fish, was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Bears football fan as well as a Chicago Cubs fan. His family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Memorial Hospital and Hamilton Grove Retirement Community. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in Our Lady of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 3-7 Monday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:00 pm.
