SOUTH BEND - Margaret H. Arch, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, with her daughter by her side. Margaret was born on April 30, 1927, in West Easton, PA, to Michael and Helen (Tobias) Petrilak. She was employed by Ball Band and Wells Electronics. On October 25, 1947, in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, as Margaret Petrilak she married Emery J. Arch. He died on September 5, 2005. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Irene Fadero. Surviving are a daughter, Annemarie Arch of South Bend; a sister, Helen (Donald) Conn of South Bend; and several nieces and nephews. Margaret was kind, patient and had a gentle way about her. She was never mean spirited and tried to have a positive attitude, especially dealing with her illness. You could always count on mom to be there for you.....unless Notre Dame football was on, then, unfortunately, you were on your own. When her doctor told her she had six months to live, her first thoughts were, Oh, Good, at least I'll get to watch Notre Dame football, but that was not to be. Thank you mom for never complaining when Dad and I would always bring home stray dogs. You always gave them love and made them part of our family. It was hard to see you struggle each day, but I was fortunate enough to have you with me as long as I did. I hope you knew how proud I was to have you for my mother. I would especially like to thank Heather, one of mom's nurses at Ironwood, for letting me know mom's time may be near. I am so grateful to her for giving me the chance to be with mom one last time, holding her hand. I will miss your beautiful smile and kindness. Margaret was cremated according to her wishes. There will be no services or visitation. Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue, is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice Care or to Pet Refuge.
