Elizabeth C. Schlaver of Mount Prospect A funeral Mass for Elizabeth C. Schlaver will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, at St. Raymond Church, Elmhurst Road (Route 83) and Lincoln Street, Mount Prospect. Her son, the Rev. David E. Schlaver, C.S.C., will officiate. She will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Born Elizabeth Mary on Dec. 9, 1912, in Kewanee, Ill., to Louise (nee Packee) and Louis Cronau, she died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights, after a brief illness. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery. Elizabeth married Clarence O. Schlaver on Jan. 20, 1942, in Kewanee. In 1944 they moved to Chicago, where he worked for the Chicago Daily News. In 1948 they came to Mount Prospect, where "C.O." served on the village board for many years and as mayor from 1961 to 1965. Elizabeth worked for seven years at Mount Prospect State Bank and then for 31 years at Randhurst State Bank (now BankOne), where she was a vice president and trust officer. She was a longtime member of the Mount Prospect Business and Professional Women's Club and a founding member of St. Raymond's Catholic Church. Surviving are her sons, the Rev. David E. Schlaver, C.S.C., of Notre Dame, Ind., and Paul J. Schlaver of Cambridge, Mass.; daughter, Marcia L. Steffens of Dowagiac, Mich.; grandchildren, Matthew, Clay (Carrie), Shane and Michelle Steffens, and Benjamin, Julian and Lisa Schlaver; and three great-granddaughters. She is also survived by her brother, Edward (Mildred) Cronau of Champaign; sister Ruth (Ralph) Coplan of Richmond, Va.; sister-in-law Fay Schlaver of Sparta, Wis.; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, who died Feb. 12, 1980; sister Helen Ray, who died July 20, 2000; and nephew Tom Coplan, who died April 27, 1991. Visitation was Wednesday, at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Road (at Northwest Highway), Mount Prospect. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Missions, PO Box 543, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
