Leonard J. Bonk, 80, of Mishawaka, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2021, in Raclin Hospice House. Leonard was born November 6, 1941 in South Bend, to the late Lawrence and Ann (Bonk) Kwiecinski. His family lived in South Bend until moving to Mishawaka when he was 4 years old. Leonard married Dorothy Jean Evans on November 30, 1963. They lived in South Bend for a short time before making Mishawaka their home. Leonard was employed for 18 years at Torrington Company in South Bend and then for 22 years at Nylon Craft in Mishawaka. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Eagles in Mishawaka. Leonard enjoyed vacationing and going to Polka Festivals. He loved music and played the accordion in several Polka Bands including the Jim Deka Trio. He enjoyed going to casinos with his best friend, Dennis. Leonard in survived by four children, Leonard (Lori) Bonk, Cathie (Julio Reyes) Teeter, Sherry (Jim) Coder and Jennifer (Mike) McNally; six grandchildren, Andrew Teeter, Ryan Bonk, Corey Teeter, Allyson Gates, Jessica Bonk and Samantha Lanko; three great grandchildren, Arrow Teeter and Carson and Camden Balentine; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Bonk; a brother-in-law, Harley Evans; and nieces and nephews. Leonard was preceded in death in 2006 by his wife of nearly 43 years, Dorothy Jean; and by a daughter, Tracy Renee Bonk; and two brothers, John and Frank Bonk. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, December 29, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Christopher Lapp officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, South Bend. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 pm on Tuesday in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.
