SOUTH BEND - Marian C. Hernicz, 80, of South Bend, passed away on Thursday, March 16th, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was born on February 17, 1937, in South Bend, to the late Alexander and Helen Jozwiak. She was married to Walter Grywczynski, who preceded her in death. Then on June 1, 1957, she married John Hernicz, who preceded her in death on October 24, 2004. Also preceding her in death was a son, William C. Grywczynski, on August 12, 2012. Marian is survived by her daughter, Cindy M. Spencer of South Bend, stepdaughter, Christine Sanders of Goshen, IN, and FL, four grandchildren, Richard Spitler, Amber Grant, Adam and Aaron Spencer, and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, Harry Jozwiak, Allen Jozwiak, Richard Jozwiak, all of South Bend, and Benjamin Jozwiak of Virginia.
She worked several years as a Kitchen Aide for the American Legion Post 284 where she was also a member of the Auxiliary. Marian enjoyed watching TV, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to 5402 Abshire Drive, South Bend, IN 46614, to help defray funeral expenses. A Celebration of Life for Marian will be held at the American Legion Post 357 on Sunday, April 2nd, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A service will take place at 4:00 PM, with Terry Huff officiating. The HANLEY and Sons Funeral Home and Cremation Service handled arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Hernicz family.
