SOUTH BEND - James R. Shilling, 85, of Mishawaka, died at 5:20 AM June 14th at the Sanctuary at St. Paul's in South Bend. James was born January 5, 1926, in Ben Lomond, AR, to the late Tucker and Esther (Mize) Shilling. On June 3, 1961, in South Bend, he married the former Sarah Lamberson. Sarah died on March 26, 1996. Surviving are three stepsons, Nils (Carla) Lamberson of South Bend, Wayne Lamberson of LaPaz and Jack (Shirley) Kujawa of Niles; eight grandchildren, Kirk Lamberson of South Bend, Jack Lamberson of South Bend, Kelly (Mike) Hartman of South Bend, Pamela Putnam of Dowagiac, MI, Dale (Judy) Kujawa of South Bend, Nils J. Lamberson of LaPaz, Brandon B. Lamberson of Bremen, Bobby (Sherry) Dixon of Middlebury; 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by one sister, Gwendolyn Terry; and three brothers, Bill Shilling, Ralph Shilling and Clarence Shilling. Jim was a Navy veteran serving as an aviation radioman during World War II. He was a life member of VFW Post 360 and was also a member of American Legion Post 1077, and Mishawaka Moose Lodge #1262. Jim retired in 1984 after working 36 years for Uniroyal in Mishawaka. Jim and his wife Sarah loved to travel throughout the United States, always making sure they made every family reunion. After retirement, Jim and Sarah would winter in Florida, making sure Jim had a place to fish. Friends and family may call one hour prior to services in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 17, in the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Vale officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. Contributions in memory of James may be made to Pet Refuge, 2300 W. 6th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544; or to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
