SOUTH BEND - Richard K. Hronek, 81, died Tuesday. He is survived by daughters Joan (Ron) Zielinski & Jayne (Joe) Schellinger, both of Granger, son Rev. Richard (Janet) Hronek of Grand Rapids, MI; 5 grand & 4 great grandchildren. Services will be 1:30 pm Wednesday in Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, where friends may visit from 11:30 am-1:30 pm. SOUTH BEND - Richard Krueger Hronek, 81, residing in South Bend, passed away at 9:53 pm Tuesday, February 14, 2012 in Memorial Hospital. He was born in Chicago, IL on November 6, 1930 to the late Joseph Vincent and Myrtle Emma (Krueger) Hronek. On November 25, 1950 in the Zion United Church of Christ, South Bend, Richard married the love of his life, the former Kathleen L. Krienke, who preceded him in death on September 28, 2011. Richard retired from the Bendix Corporation in 1981 after 31 years as a pipefitter. He was a part-time instructor at Ivy Tech College North Central from 1966-1974 in pipefitting and hydraulics. He was a member of the Saint Joseph Lodge #45 F. & AM., Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, Zion United Church of Christ, where he served on the board of deacons, St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2083, Bendix Square & Compass Club and Bendix Local #9 U.A.W. Retirees. Surviving Richard are his two daughters, Joan (Ron) Zielinski of Granger and Jayne (Joe) Schellinger of Granger; one son, Rev. Richard J. (Jan) Hronek of Kentwood, MI; five grandchildren, Dr. Christopher (Abby) Zielinski, Joseph Zielinski, Elizabeth Hronek-Atkins, Richard Matthew Hronek and Katie Schellinger; and four great grandchildren, Aleksey, Marko and Kora Zielinski and Tierney Hronek. Funeral services for Richard will be 1:30 pm Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Rev. Richard J. Hronek and Rev. Msgr. William Schooler will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm Wednesday in the funeral home prior to services. Memorial contributions in memory of Richard may be given to St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 915 N. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN 46615.
