Theodore Poledor
November 17, 1931 ~ July 10, 2022 (age 90)
Theodore E. Poledor of South Bend died on July 10, 2022. He was the fourth child of Yiota and Pendel Poledor, who emigrated from Aigio, Akhaia, Western Greece in the early 20th century. He was born in South Bend on November 17, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents, his uncle Eustice Poledor and his wife Alexandra, his uncle Andrew Poledor, his aunt Georgia Argyris, his brother Andrew, his niece Denise Manikas, and his nephew Gary Corolis. He is survived by his sisters Virginia Corolis of Toronto, Canada, and Bessie Lambron of San Diego, California, and his dear companion Marie Pauwels, as well as his nephews Greg Lambron, Peter Corolis, and Andrew Corolis, nephew-in-law Alex Manikas, great nephews Justin Manikas, Harrison Corolis, Matthew Corolis, William Corolis, Ted Mumford, and Max Bell, and his nieces Nancy Taylor, Mary Ellen Lambron, Georgia Abel, great nieces Lindsey Corolis Calles, Stephanie Manikas, Brittany Welch, Tess Bell, and Ali Mumford. Ted attended Culver Military Academy and graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1955, with a degree in business. He and his brother ran the Philadelphia Restaurant in downtown South Bend until urban renewal in 1972. He later opened the Philadelphia Candy Store on State Road 23 in South Bend until 2002, when he sold the business. He volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels, as well as volunteering at Memorial Hospital in South Bend in the cafe, the gift store, and as an escort to patients. He also volunteered in the AARP Tax Aide Program to assist seniors and low-income taxpayers to file their tax returns. He was always a generous supporter of many charitable local and national organizations. Ted was a life-long member of St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church and worked for many years at the Greek Festival preparing loukoumades (Greek pastries). He was beloved by all who knew him, and the possessor of a wonderful sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.Visitation will be at St. Andrew Church, 52455 Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN 46635 on Friday, July 15 from 12:00-1:00, to be followed by funeral services, interment at Riverview Cemetery on Portage Road, and a reception for friends at Ted's home, 211 West Marion St. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Saref Endowment Fund of St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 52455 N. Ironwood Rd., South Bend, IN 46635. Palmer Funeral Homes - River Park Chapel on Mishawaka Ave. is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
