SOUTH BEND - Helen Mary Althouse, 78, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013, in her residence. Helen was born April 3, 1935, in South Bend, to the late Sylvester and Genevieve (Soberalski) Golubski. Helen was also preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Markin. On June 16, 1986, Helen married Harold Althouse, who survives along with their children, Bruce (Frances Horvath) Markin, Brenda Markin, Brian (Mary) Markin, all of South Bend, and Shawn (Brenda) Markin of Walkerton; stepchildren, Gwen Althouse of El Paso, TX, Debbie Hurta of Jacksonville, FL, David Althouse of South Bend, Greg (Sherrie) Althouse of El Paso, TX, Dawn (Randy) Ritz of Plymouth, Denice Althouse of Orlando, FL; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen retired from Osco Drug Store, and she was a member of West Side Church of Christ. She treasured her collection of elephants, and most of all she loved spending time with her family. Visitation for Helen will be 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Sunday, October 6, 2013, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Funeral Ceremony will be celebrated 10:00 am Monday, October 7, 2013, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Garden Cemetery.
