ELKHART- Jakob Iwanko, 87, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born October 20, 1929 in Donbass, Ukraine. On May 11, 1952 he married his wife of 65 years, Anna (Horban) Iwanko. In addition to his wife, other survivors include one daughter, Larissa A. Ambrose of Elkhart; 2 grandchildren, Jacob Ambrose of Elkhart and Angie (Tony) Deerberg of Bristol; 2 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ludmilla Iwanko. Jakob was the owner and operator of J & I Saw Sharpening for many years prior to his retirement. Jakob will be missed by all who knew him. He had lived quite the life growing up in the Ukraine during the war. For those that knew him know that he had a story to tell about all aspects of his life’s adventures. With all of his ups and downs in his life he managed to overcome so many things that led him to survive his eighty seven years. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 30th from 4 until 6 PM at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 31st at the funeral home. Pastor Bud Walterhouse of California Road Missionary Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Rice Cemetery.
