Obituary: Helen Torin Barcevic
Nov. 11, 1918 - April 5, 2007
MICHIGAN CITY - Helen Barcevic, 88, of Michigan City, died April 5, at 12:25 a.m. at the Arbors of Michigan City. Services will be held Monday, April 9, at 11 a.m. in Carlisle Funeral Home with Rev. James Hogan officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City. Mrs. Barcevic was born November 11, 1918, in Gary, IN, to Louis and Barbara (Spakowsky) Torin, both of whom preceded her in death. In 1938 she married Emil Barcevic; he passed away in January of 1992. Surviving are son, Emil "Nick" Barcevic of South Bend; daughters, Barbara Shula of Trail Creek, and Deborah (Anthony) Wojasinski of LaPorte; grandchildren, Jerrod Barcevic, Jeanett (Keith) Kapinski, Frank (Michelle) Shula, Matthew (Lisa) Shula, Amber, Anthony and Adam Wojasinski; great-grandchildren, Kahlyn, Sofia and Brock Barcevic, Ashlyn and Kelsey Kapinski, and Isbella Shula. She was preceded in death by son Matthew; grandson Brett Barcevic; brothers, John Regina and Louis Torin; and sister Mary Starcevic. Mrs. Barcevic and her husband had been owner/operators of La Cuisine restaurant in Michigan City and the founding owners of the Volcano in South Bend which is now operated by Nick and the 3rd generation is helping operations.
