Julius H. “Jay” DeLanghe, 84, of South Bend died at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, October 10th in Kindred Hospital Northern Indiana, Mishawaka. Jay was born March 29, 1931 in Lakeville to the late Lula (Clements) and Julius E DeLanghe and was a life time area resident. On October 10, 1958 in South Bend he married Mardelle J. “Mardi” (Shults) Sandlin who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Susan R. Isenberg (Mark) of Topeka, KS, Tami L. Beckham (Dan) of Osceola and Tonya G. Karczewski (Mark) of South Bend; two sons, Randall H. DeLanghe (Sheryl) of Avondale, AZ and Jeffrey B. Sandlin (Yuh-Shiow) of Cleveland OH; a brother, Virgil DeLanghe (Betty) of South Bend; a half-sister, Gladys Hite of Plymouth, IN; and 12 grandchildren. Jay attended Lakeville High School and he was employed at Hawthorne National Dairy, retired from Bendix and Teeter Tool and Die as an Inspector. He was a long time Notre Dame football fan and served many years as an usher at football games. He loved riding his lawnmower and being outdoors. But one of his biggest passions was solving Sodoku puzzles. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 15th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., with Rev. Jennifer Weaver of Epworth United Methodist Church officiating. Committal services and burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 14th from 4 until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
