GRANGER - Edward G. Wojcik, 87, passed away Friday, May 29, 2009, in Hospice House. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Nowicki and Pat Sheetz; six sons, Joseph Wojcik, Stephen Wojcik, Denis Wojcik, Edward Wojcik, Robert Wojcik, and Gregory Wojcik; sisters, Rose Ringer and Mary (Charles) Witz; brothers, Stanley Wojcik and Al Wojcik. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 2, in St. Pius X Church. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend and for one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday in St. Pius X Church.Edward G. Wojcik

GRANGER - Edward G. Wojcik, 87, of Granger, IN, passed away at 10:05 a.m. Friday, May 29, in Hospice House. Edward was born on April 17, 1922, in Knox, IN, to George F. and Mary (Skalka) Wojcik. He had lived locally since 1960, coming from Plymouth, IN. Edward retired in December 1985 from the Bendix Corporation, where he was employed as a mechanical engineer for 35 years. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah (David) Nowicki of South Bend, IN, and Pat (Bob) Sheetz of Dallas, TX; six sons, Joseph (Janet) Wojcik of Geneva, IL, Stephen Wojcik of Social Circle, GA, Denis (Jackie) Wojcik of Flower Mound, TX, Edward (Mary) Wojcik of Hobart, IN, Robert (Lisa) Wojcik of South Bend, IN, and Gregory (Becky) Wojcik of Brownsburg, IN; 16 grandchildren, Jason (Marie) Thornton, Kimberly Thornton, Nathan (Christy) Thornton, Michael Wojcik, J.J. Wojcik, Jena Wojcik, Jessica Wojcik, Pacia Wojcik, Avery Wojcik, Ed Wojcik, Tom Wojcik, Cece Wojcik, Zach Wojcik, Jake Wojcik, Cooper Wojcik and Francesca Wojcik; nine great-grandchildren, Alex Thornton, Cameron Thornton, Caleb Drake, Brayden Drake, Trey Wrennick, Kylie Thornton, Audrey Burge, Lillian Rockhill and Khyra Lakin; two sisters, Rose (Ralph) Ringer and Mary (Charles) Witz, both of Plymouth, IN; two brothers, Stanley (Loraine) Wojcik and Al (Rita) Wojcik, both of Plymouth, IN; many nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by three sisters, Ann Barnas, Stella Kukelski and Helen Bradtke; and four brothers, Walter and Frank Hajdusiewicz, Joseph and John Wojcik. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 2nd, in St. Pius X Church. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Monday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in St. Pius X Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Edward was a 1940 graduate of West High School in Plymouth. He then served in the United States Army during WW II for four years in Africa, Sicily and Italy. Edward was a corporal when he was discharged from the military. In 1950 he graduated from Purdue University with a degree in mechanical engineering. Edward coached baseball for 30 years for Clay Junior Baseball Association and served as president for 16 years. He was also responsible for the concession stand operation and for preparing the baseball diamonds for play. Edward was a member of St. Pius X Parish and V.F.W. #15015.
