SOUTH BEND - Frances P. Salata of Hamilton Grove in New Carlisle and formerly of Harrison Road in South Bend, IN, died at 9:15 pm Wednesday, January 26, 2011. She was born on September 25, 1914 to the late John and Bertha (Gorski) Paszkiet in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. On June 1, 1935, as Frances Paszkiet, she married Aloysius Salata in South Bend, IN. He preceded her in death on July 16, 1997. Along with her parents; Frances was also preceded in death by her daughter, Eileen A. Sikorski and by her brother, Louis Paszkiet. She is survived by two sons, Thomas X. (Doris) Salata of Nocona, TX and Robert (Patricia) Salata of Bowling Green, KY, son-in-law Robert (Lois) Sikorski of South Bend, IN, four granddaughters; Roberta (Elmer) Dangerfield of Austin, TX, Roberta (Ron) Szumski of Avon, IN, Robyn (Keith) Futa of Mishawaka, IN and Ann Sikorski of Granger, IN; six grandsons, Jeffery (Helen) Salata of Highland Village, TX, David (Alice) Salata of Flower Mound, TX, Mark (Kim) Sikorski of New Carlisle, IN, Bruce (Mary Grace) Sikorski of South Bend, IN, Robert (Sharon) Salata of Bowling Green, KY, and Ronald (Laura) Salata of Avon, IN, Eight great-granddaughters and twelve great-grandsons, her sister-in-law, Mary Paszkiet of South Bend, IN and her niece, Christine Paszkiet, of Kokomo, IN. Mrs. Salata was one of the founding members of Holy Family Catholic Church and a former president of its Ladies Rosary Association. She was also a past president of the former St. Hedwig School's PTA. She also served as a Catholic Activities Religious Co-Coordinator at Hamilton Grove. Mrs. Salata retired from the University of Notre Dame Dormitory Services. Frances was an accomplished pianist and most importantly she was a truly loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. A devout Catholic, Frances' entire life was one of prayerful devotion and dedication to her family. Her love, her smile, her gentle manner and her caring nature were all blessings to her family and friends. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - noon Saturday January 29, 2011, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 North Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 56407 Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN, with Rev. Joe Corpora, C.S.C. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Hamilton Grove Activities Fund, 31869 Chicago Trail, New Carlisle, IN 46552; Holy Family Catholic Church, 56407 Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN 46619; or to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
