NILES - Frank P. Skopec, of Downers Grove, IL, died Thursday, June 18, 2009. He was preceded by his wife, the former Amelia Baran, sharing 57 memorable years and a daughter, Cynthia Trewin. He was the oldest of nine children and is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Peterson of Niles; three sons, Steven (Debra) Skopec, David (Halina) Skopec and Frank Skopec; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Frank was a longtime resident of Niles with a lifetime interest in this part of Michigan. While in Niles he was employed by the M.C.R.R. and Kawneer Co. In 1950 moved to Battle Creek, MI and in 1964 to Chicago. He has been retired since 1980. A veteran of World War II. His brother, Charles Skopec was a longtime member of the Niles Police Department and also served as an Alderman. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral at 9:30 a.m. from Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main St (1 block S. of Ogden Ave.) Downers Grover, IL to St. Mary of Gostyn Church, Downers Grove.
