SOUTH BEND - Gertrude M. "Busia" Bednarek, 80, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 20th, in Sanctuary at Holy Cross. She is survived by her two sons, Gary and Mark Bednarek; and her brother, Gene Sobiech. Visitation will be from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. Friday, Oct. 22nd, in St. Joseph Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, Oct. 23rd, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. www.sjfh.net

SOUTH BEND - Gertrude M. Bednarek, 80, passed away at 6:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 in Sanctuary at Holy Cross. Gertrude was born on September 3, 1930 in South Bend to the late Frank and Helen (Wierbinski) Sobiech. On February 10, 1950, she married Robert P. Bednarek, he preceded her in death on November 19, 1976. She was also preceded in death by her son, Scott Robert Bednarek; sister, Margaret Kibler; and by her brother, Richard Sobiech. She is survived by her two sons, Gary (Kim) Bednarek of South Bend and Mark Bednarek of New Boston, MI; four grandchildren, Robert S. Bednarek of Purdue, IN, Anna R. Bednarek of South Bend, Christine L. Bednarek of Indianapolis; and Jennifer A. (Adam) Mioc of Running Springs, CA; grandchild, Zoe; and by her brother, Gene Sobiech. Gertrude was a parishioner of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where she was the pioneer of "Bun Day". She was a member of the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care until November 2002. She was the matriarch of the Bednarek family and was proud of her Polish heritage; her parents came through Ellis Island. Busia loved her family especially her grandchildren, she enjoyed her ladies card club and was one helluva cook. Gertrude retired from Sears after 20 years of service. A heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff and patrons at the Sanctuary at Holy Cross. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, October 22, 2010 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S, Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30am on Saturday, October 23, 2010 in the Funeral Home.
