George L. Heynssens, 88, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 surrounded by his family. George was born March 9, 1934 in South Bend, to the late Leopold (Paul) and Magdelina (VanDerHeyden) Heynssens. On June 18, 1955 in St. Mary’s Church, Michigan City, George married his loving wife, Patricia A. (Block) Heynssens, she proceeded him in death in 2015. George was also preceded in death by a sister, Irene DeBuysser. Left to cherish the memory of George are his children, Michelle (Pat Donovan) Miller, Pamela Fischer, Sheryl (Eric Haynes) Howard; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Leopold Heynssens; sister, Leona Spencer; and brother-in-law, Thomas (Marilyn) Block. George worked for the South Bend School Corporation for 35 years until retiring in 1994. He and Patricia enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the West. George dedicated his life to his family, they meant everything to him. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Per George’s wishes, private services have been held.
