SOUTH BEND - Marion E. Makowski Jr., 85, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016, in the Sanctuary at Holy Cross.Marion was born June 30, 1930, in to the late Marion and Clara (Walinski) Makowski. Marion was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia E. Walorski; daughter-in-law, Connie Makowski; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Cichowicz. On September 12, 1953, in South Bend, Marion married Rita (Gorney) Makowski, who survives along with son, Dale Makowski of Edwardsburg, MI; grandchildren, Ryan (Chris) and Kim (Ryan) Hoffman; sister, Darlene Holland of South Bend; brother, Tim Makowski of Great Falls, MT; brother-in-law, Richard (Judy) Gorney of South Bend; and a son-in-law, David Walorski of South Bend; and many nieces and nephews. Marion honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War earning a Purple Heart, Medal of Honor, and the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. He retired in 1992 from Holbert Engineering Company where he worked as a tool and die designer for 20 years. Marion was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church and he was an usher for 50 years at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. He was past Commander of American Legion Post 357, member of the DAV #39, Anchor Conservation Club and the West Side Democratic Club. Marion also enjoyed traveling, fishing, and going to the Casino. Visitation for Marion is 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, April 14, 2016, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., with a Rosary to be prayed at 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, April 15, 2016, in Holy Family Catholic Church. Entombment with military honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
