Katherine Jane (Vanek) Bali
April 10, 1938 ~ September 22, 2021 (age 83)
Katherine Jane Bali, 83, passed away at 7am on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, in her home with her family by her side. Jane was born on Palm Sunday, April 10, 1938, in North Judson, IN. Her father always told her it was a bright sunny day. She was born to the late, John L. and Dorothy E. (Engel) Vanek. Jane was also preceded in death by her siblings, Edward, Betty, and Louis. On May 21, 1960, Jane married George F. Bali and he passed away on September 15, 2017, after 57 years of marriage. Jane is survived by daughters, Beth (Jim) Burkhead and Amy (Ken) Hurt; son, Chris (Dianne) Bali. Our wonderful, crazy, mixed family includes 7 grandchildren, Stacy, Ellen (Derek), Oscar, Alan (Katie), Marissa (Kyle), Katie, and Bekelech; 8 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Legan, Otto, Anna, Ben, Jullian, Brooke, and Karter. We hope they will all remember how much they were loved and how very proud your grandparents were of you. Grandpa would always look over all of you and say to Grandma, “look what we did!”After graduating from High School, Jane moved to South Bend and graduated from The College of Commerce. She worked at a large accounting firm as an executive secretary. After meeting Dad and getting married, the decision was made for Mom to stay home and raise us 3 kids. She always took pride in her home and family while creating wonderful memories and traditions. Many memories were made around the dinner table and holidays were always spent together. We had great family vacations that she planned, and we could always get her and Dad to give in to a trip to Dairy Queen after we sang the jingle. She later returned to work at Columbine Trucking followed by many years at DeCoker Company. After retiring, mom and dad enjoyed many trips and adventures in their little, red Miata. Her Catholic faith was a big part of our upbringing, and she was a member of St. Therese Little Flower Church for over 50 years. Our family would like to thank mom’s caregivers, Brenda, Dawn, Melody and Vicki for your loving and compassionate care. We could not have done this without you.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lost and Found Pets of South Bend, P.O. Box 3432 South Bend, IN 46619.Visitation will be 4-7pm on Monday, September 27, 2021, in Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4pm.
