[N11073] Ernest S. Pajakowski
Jan. 11, 1926 - June 15, 2006
Ernest S. Pajakowski, 80, of South Bend, passed away after a short illness at 6:05 p.m. Thursday, June 15, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Ernest was born on January 11, 1926, in South Bend, to Stefan and Helen (Kalamaja) Pajakowski. He graduated from St. Adalbert's Grammar School and South Bend Catholic High School. While at South Bend Catholic he was class president and was named honorable mention all-state in football. On April 11, 1953, he married the former Loretta Mae Shaw in Gary, Indiana, who survives. He loved to work. He began his career in 1944 at the former Studebaker Corporation. In 1956 he began a long successful career in sales with Stanley Enterprises and Michiana Machine. "Ernie" was so dedicated that he drove over a million miles during his career as a steel fabricating salesman. After retiring he started his "second career" as a deliveryman for Expert Optical, where he worked until his death. He loved Notre Dame and the Chicago Cubs. But most of all he was a family man. As a husband, father and grandfather, he will be deeply missed. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers, Casimir, Leo and Roman; two brothers-in-law, Stanley Krol and Roy Varda; and two sisters-in-law, Henrietta and Helen Pajakowski.
Along with his wife of 53 years he is survived by two sons, Stephen Ernest (Mary) of South Bend and Philip Eugene (Susanne) of Manchester, NH; two sisters, Virginia Krol and Theresa Varda. His four grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. They are: Adam Leo, Stephanie Jude, Thaddeus Jude and Sophia Rossbach Pajakowski. He will be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Family and friends may visit today, June 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. in Kaniewski Funeral Home on Bendix Drive in South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, June 21, at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Catholic Church, with Fr. Michael Werntz, CSC, and Fr. Camillo Tirabassi officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's High School Athletics or to the Holy Cross Parish Renaissance Campaign. Family and friends may leave condolences at Kaniewski.com.
