SOUTH BEND - Irene B. Derdak, 83, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010. She was born May 7, 1926, in South Bend, Indiana to Vincent and Matilda (Horvath) Keszei. Mrs. Derdak was an Insurance Specialist with the former Bendix Corporation for over 20 years. On April 29, 1950, as Irene Keszei she married Michael Derdak, who preceded her in death on February 28, 1999. She is survived by her children, Christine (Gary) Hawkins of South Bend, Indiana, Margaret (Maggie),(Jerry) Kostielney of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Michael (Dolores) Derdak of Lebanon, Tennessee, and Vincent (Candy) Derdak of Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Stephanie (Greg) Watkins, Kelly (Eric) McNamee, Mollie, Spencer, Louis, & Mary Kostielney, Jay & Dareion Hawkins; and brothers, Emery (Mary Ann) Keszei of South Bend, Indiana and Louis (Liz) Keszei of South Bend, Indiana. Sisters, Yolanda Hanley, Maryanne Bergh; and brothers, Frank, Alex, Joseph, and Michael Keszei all preceded her in death. Irene was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and making Hungarian dishes and pastries. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Parish or the Center for the Homeless. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Monday, February 8, 2010, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at St. Jude Catholic Church, South Bend, Indiana.
