Mishawaka- Henry Stanley Pankiw, 69, passed away on Saturday July 12, 2014 in his residence. Henry was born on March 6, 1945 in Altenstadt, Germany as the son of Bogdan and Kasimiera (Tabor) Pankiw. On August 9, 1969 in Christ the King Catholic Church South Bend Henry married the former Cynthia M. Yocum, she survives along with their children Valerie (Scott) Berry of Chandler, AZ, Rebecca (Jeff) Mitchell of Cumming, GA, Daniel (Alisha) Pankiw of Indianapolis, IN. His Father Bogdan Pankiw of Merrillville, IN. Eight Grandchildren Alyssa Berry, Amanda Berry, Elaine Pankiw, Charles Pankiw, Julia Mitchell, Kaylin Pankiw, Allison Mitchell, Evan Pankiw. One sister Christine (Andrew) Lustofin of Schaumburg, IL, one brother Ted Pankiw of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by his mother Kasimiera Pankiw and one sister Irene Pankiw. Henry graduated form Andrean High School in Gary, IN in 1963, Then Continuing his education at Purdue University receiving his undergraduate degree in 1967 and also his Master's Degree from Purdue. Henry made his home in the Michiana area in 1968. He was very proud of his Polish heritage, being born in Germany during World War II his parents instilled him with pride in their heritage and faith which he passed on to his children. He loved the outdoors whether walking, fishing, or chatting with friends. Henry was very active in his church St. Bavo's working with Christ Renews His Parish or with the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Friends may visit with the family on Monday July 14 form 4-7 PM in Hahn Funeral Home 505 W. 8th Street Mishawaka. Where a Rosary will be recited at 4:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday July 15 at 10:00 AM in St. Bavo Catholic Church Mishawaka with Rev. Barry England, Officiating. Burial will follow in South Lawn Cemetery South Bend. His family requests in Lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to either St. Vincent De Paul Society or to St. Bavo Catholic Church.
